What's the reality of Augustine's statement, "whoever denies the Trinity is in danger of losing his salvation; whoever tries to understanding the Trinity is in danger of losing his mind" and how does this apply to us?

Do each of the persons of the trinity reflect different aspects of one God? Does this change how we pray?

How did the Chalcedon and Nicaea councils work? Was it just a bunch of old men sitting around a room debating or something else? Did they last multiple days? Were they locked in the same room until they reached a decision?

Why did it take 300 years for anyone to decide to have a council in order to distinguish the divinity of Christ?

How do we distinguish between anthropomorphic depictions of God and an accurate revealed aspect of His character?
Follow up, what is to keep us from assigning a trait to God and then explaining away contradictory scriptures by saying scripture is just speaking to our limited human perspective and it really doesn't mean what it says?

In 2 Corinthians 5:10 it says "For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body." Do we actually receive what we deserve if we get to spend eternity in heaven with God, even though we have sinned and deserve death.

On average, I tend to hear people (myself included) pray to the father (or to Jesus) and then end the prayer in the son's (Jesus') name. If an unbeliever or someone not at all acquainted with Christianity were to ask why we do that, how should we answer their question? Does it matter? If so, why?

Which aspects of the Trinity are we encouraged to dig deeper and study and which aspects of the Trinity are impossible to understand and we can never fully know on Earth?

Exodus 34:7 says, "he punishes children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and forth generation". Why are children punished for the sins of their parents? How does this change with Jesus dying on the cross for all sin?

Why is it that at the Council of Nicaea they decided that Christ was begotten, not made by the Father. What is the difference between begotten and made, and what is the theological significance of it?

I know that we still have "councils" that occur today, though I believe it's each denomination ironing, or sometimes hammering, out the finer details of their theology. My question is, is this necessary 2,000 years later? Have we gleaned all of the doctrine and theology we can from scripture in the past 2,000 years or is there more that we can learn on this side of heaven?

In Turning Points, Noll states on page 71 that the quarrel following the council of Chalcedon weakened Christianity in that region in a way that prepared for the triumph of Islam. How did this quarrel prepare the way for Islam? Could understanding this specific weakening of Christianity help us share the Gospel with Muslims in the East?
